Lime Bikes on Fire
Oil on canvas
This series started as a personal grievance. After being scammed by Lime, painting their bikes on fire felt like the appropriate response.
The subject turned out to be richer than the frustration that sparked it. Lime bikes are everywhere in cities like Paris and Amsterdam — shared, abandoned, resented, occasionally set alight. They are a very specific kind of urban object: public but privately owned, convenient but unreliable, impossible to ignore. Painting them burning felt honest about what it is like to live alongside the infrastructure of modern city life.
